Why we ask for your Flume password
Short version: we use your Flume password once to connect, grab a secure access key, and we're done. We never save your password.
How Flume works
Your water data lives behind your Flume account, and Flume keeps it private. For another app like Barranca Verde to read it, Flume asks for two things:
- An API key (a Client ID and Client Secret) that you create in your Flume account. This is the long-term key that lets us read your usage.
- A one-time sign-in with your Flume email and password, so Flume knows it's really you authorizing the connection.
So here's what we do
When you connect, you paste your API key and enter your Flume login. We send your password to Flume one time to get a secure access token in return — then we throw the password away. We never store it.
From that point on, your data syncs automatically using just your API key. You won't be asked for your password again.
You stay in control
Your API key is encrypted before we store it, and we only ever use it to read your water usage — never to change anything. You can revoke our access anytime from your Flume account.
